Let's recycle new orleans again!

I am starting this Web site because I believe that we are well overdue on getting the recycling programs started back up in New Orleans and the surrounding area. August 29, 2010 was the 5th anniversary since hurricane Katrina devastated the region.
I believe it was some time in October of 2005 that all of the recycle bins mysteriously disappeared. I feel that after 5 long years this should no longer be used as an excuse!

Just what is the problem exactly?

I am passionate about recycling, not using if possible, and reusing the items that I can. This will be an on-going work in progress. I hope to research and collect information about recycling, reusing, living a greener life and reducing our carbon foot print that we will all find helpful!

Let the recycling begin!

reuse your old building materials!

Doug Perry, my other half, is a local home improvement contractor. A customer had him remove an old carport that was no longer safe. He salvaged all of the good wood and tin that he could.

As you can see from the photos, he constructed this awesome shed that ended up costing us about $45.00. He only had to purchase screws, hurricane clips, and hardware for the doors. Too bad we didn’t have any of that in storage.

Yes, this is shed #3. I guess we need this because we like to store stuff that we can use again. Some people throw out perfectly good materials etc. I wish they would at least donate them to a local green building project.

He mentioned to me that he was going to paint it white to match the one that it is attached to. However, I really like the rustic look that it has. If you are a NOLA local it just might remind you of the historic Rivershack Tavern, The RiverShack Tavern Wow, that's actually an aweful rendition. I will have to click a photo early one morning when all of the cars aren't hiding the front!

I would like to take inspiration from the painted slate tiles that I have and do some creative painting on the side. Dixie and Jax Beer, Tabasco sauce plus great Louisiana seafood, AH-EE!
